Valico is a turn-by-turn navigation app that guides you along routes you import, generate, or record. The short version: Valico stores your data on your device and sends it off the device only to do the thing you asked for — never to advertisers, never for tracking.
Data stored on your device only
The following stay on your iPhone and are never transmitted anywhere unless you take an explicit action described below:
- Profile — the name and email you optionally enter, and your garage (vehicle year/make/model), shown inside the app.
- Routes — GPX routes you import, routes you generate, and drives you record, including their coordinates and any marks you add.
- Drive history — a local log of drives you complete.
- Install identifier — a random ID created once per install to keep local data consistent. It is not tied to your identity and does not survive a reinstall.
Valico has no account system and no login. Deleting the app removes all of this data from your device.
Data sent off your device
Valico contacts outside services only in these cases:
- Routing and map data (Stadia Maps). When Valico matches a route to roads or draws the map, it sends the relevant coordinates to Stadia Maps, our maps and routing provider. This is required for navigation to work. See the Stadia Maps privacy policy.
- Route generation (Route Muse). If you use the optional "generate a route" feature, the start/end and preferences you enter are sent to our route-generation service to produce candidate routes.
- Publishing a share link (optional). If you choose to publish a route as a public share link, Valico uploads that route so anyone with the link can open it. Before upload, Valico sanitizes the route: timestamps are removed and the start and end are trimmed by about 250 meters so the link does not reveal where you live. Your name is included only if you turn on the "include my name" option — it is off by default. A published route and its name are publicly viewable by anyone who has the link. Sharing a GPX file directly to a friend (outside the publish flow) does not upload anything to our servers.
Valico does not use analytics SDKs, advertising, or third-party tracking, and does not sell your data.
The share backend
Published share links are stored on infrastructure operated for Valico (Google Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage, served through Cloudflare). A published link holds the sanitized route, its name, and — only if you opted in — the name you chose to attach. To have a published route removed, contact us at the address below with the link.
Location
Valico uses your location to navigate. With your permission it may access location in the background so guidance continues while the screen is off or while you use CarPlay. Location is used to guide you and, as described above, is sent to Stadia Maps for routing/map-matching and — only when you publish — to the share backend. It is not used for advertising or tracking.
Children
Valico is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy; the "last updated" date above will change. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
